G. DWAIN ADAMS
Dwain grew up in Middle Tennessee. He lived and worked in Maryland at the head of the Chesapeake Bay for thirty-five years. After retiring from the federal service he has come back to Tennessee to live.
Living on the Chesapeake Bay where there is a history of duck and goose hunting and wooden decoy making made its mark on him. He attended his first decoy show in Salisbury, Maryland in 1966. He became fascinated with the craft and has been carving off and on since that time. Dwain’s work has gained wide acclaim and is currently sought by collectors from a wide area.
Technique: He carves his birds from basswood using knives and chisels, then he burns feathers into his carvings with a burning tool manufactured for the purpose. He paints most of his birds with acrylic paints and mounts them on locally found driftwood.
Member: Franklin County Arts Guild, Sewanee Arts and Crafts Association, and Tennessee Association of Craft Artists, Craft Artists of Southern Tennessee, and Tennessee Valley Woodworkers.
